Life at LDM | Employee Spotlight, Sarah Rotermund
Sarah Rotermund, Executive Director
What is your definition of success?
To me, success is about feeling fulfilled. It looks different for everyone, so comparing yourself to others isn’t useful. What brings fulfillment to one person may not do the same for another. True success comes from focusing on what fills your bucket—aligning your life with the values that matter most to you—and continuously working to keep it positively filled.
What's the most unique part about working at LDM?
The people – that’s why you stay or leave an organization. I am proud to work at LDM because of those who surround me. Each person truly lives up to our core values and that is exemplified in our work, how we operate internally and how we treat each other.
What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?
That the Corporate Transparency Act is a pain in my backside. Just kidding … I didn’t just learn that in the last month. What I did learn is that the Backstreet Boys announced their residency in Vegas and my twelve-year-old heart is trying to figure out how to go.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting their career?
I was recently asked this in an interview and couldn’t come up with just one piece of advice. So, here are four nuggets:
- Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and do the “small” things. It’s important to work from the ground up so you have an understanding as to how that task/process fits into the bigger picture
- Network, network, network! BUT! Focus on building genuine relationships.
- Take initiative and stay curious. Don’t be afraid to ask to learn new things and take on new tasks simply for the sake of learning. You never know where that “ask” will lead you.
- This has become my most precious piece of advice. Set boundaries and stick to them. It’s easy to bring work home or lose sleep over tomorrow’s tasks, but it’s important to prioritize self-care so you can show up as your best self personally and professionally. Set boundaries where needed and make a conscious effort to maintain them, while also allowing flexibility for the occasional exception.
What are you currently reading, binge-watching or listing to?
If I am in charge of Spotify, it’s Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan all day every day. If my daughter has a say in it, we are listening to Wheels on the Bus … And also, the song “Wobble” because we taught her how to do the Wobble and she likes to break it down during living room dance parties … #MillenialParenting
