Former Governor & U.S. Senator Ben Nelson to Present at Omaha Bar Association Event

Senator Ben Nelson joins the Omaha Bar Association, UNO students, and the public for a discussion on restoring civility and deliberation in the U.S. Senate. Known for his independent leadership and commitment to policy over politics, Senator Nelson will share his perspective on creating a more effective Senate.

Honorable Ben Nelson served two terms in the U.S. Senate from 2001 to 2013 and did not seek a third term. From 2013-2016, he was CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). His career in insurance began in 1965 with the Nebraska Department of Insurance, and he served as Nebraska’s Insurance Director and CEO of Central National Insurance Group. He was elected Nebraska’s Governor in 1990 and re-elected in 1994, leaving office with an 80% approval rating. In the Senate, he played a key role in state insurance issues and disaster relief.

He is now Of Counsel at LDM and CEO of a Florida-based insurance group.
